Thornless Blackberries

Triple Crown:  Semi-erect, but best with trellis.  The most productive sweet thornless type.  Large berries, fast growth, smaller seeds.  This will tip root and give you many more plants if you fail to tie it to the trellis.  Canes can grow 10’ or more!  Mid to late-season ripening.

4“ pots $6.00; gallon pots $12.00

Apache:  Upright growth, does not need a trellis!  Thornless plants bear huge, sweet berries.  Apache has high yields and good keeping qualities.  Mid-season ripening.

4“ pots $6.00; gallon pots $12.00

Natchez:  More upright growing than Triple Crown but still considered “semi-erect,” and would be easier to manage with a trellis.  Thornless plants bear huge, sweet berries.  Early-season ripening.   Limited Availability.

4“ pots $6.00; gallon pots $12.00

Black Raspberries

Jewel:  A time-tested variety which still holds the main spot in nursery catalogs.  Black glossy berries about twice the size of wild black raspberries and strong, disease-resistant canes.  Definitely needs trellising or you will wind up with tip-rooted plants everywhere!  Has all the flavor of wild black raspberries—simply delectable!  Canes can grow over 10’ long; best to tip at 5’.  4“ pots $6.00; gallon pots $12.00

Red Raspberries

Heritage:  Heritage came on the scene over 30 years ago as an innovative new “ever bearing” raspberry.  It is still in fashion and remains one of the best and most popular variety of red raspberry for home or market growing.  Will crop early summer and again in the fall if only the dead (second year) shoots are selectively pruned out every winter.  Most market growers (including us) mow down the entire plant every winter, resulting in a heavier crop of high quality berries in the fall only.  Disease-resistant, and berries are less prone to molds than some other red raspberries.  Fills in the row very quickly—plant every 2’ and you’ll have a thick hedge in 2 years!  4“ pots $6.00; gallon pots $12.00
