Traditional CSA’s vs. CSA Coupons

Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a concept that began over 30 years ago in Japan and Europe.  CSA is basically a relationship formed between a farm and a community of local “shareholders.”

These shareholders commit to support the farm by purchasing a “share” of the

whole season’s harvest before the farming season starts.  By doing so, they agree to share the risks and unpredictable factors of farming.  In a traditional CSA, Shareholders receive a box of produce every week throughout the growing season. The contents of the box are usually selected by the farmer.

Brambleberry Farm’s CSA coupon program also gives shareholders from the community the opportunity to support the farm with capital at the time of the year when seeds and supplies are being purchased.  However, instead of

receiving a box of selected produce each week, shareholders are able to select their own produce from Brambleberry Farm’s farmers market stand.  Members receive coupons that they can redeem for produce as well as other goods such as seedlings, nursery stock, wooden utensils and other  handcrafts that are sold at the farmers’ market booth.

FAQ’s

What are the investment levels?

Members can choose to invest as little as $50.  Investments at the $100 level and above receive 5% off:  i.e. $100 worth of coupons costs $95.

In what denominations are the coupons issued?

Each coupon is worth $2.50.  Up to $1 change will be given for purchases of less than $2.50.

What if I get to the market late and you are out of what I want?

That is a possibility.  To avoid that problem we are limiting coupon investments to half the amount that our regular CSA program totaled. You should also be aware that there may be a very few weeks when we are not able to make it to market.  We all need a break now & then!

Can I only purchase produce with my coupons?

No! anything we sell at our farmers market stand can be purchased with Brambleberry Bucks!  We expect to have nursery stock, seedlings, and wooden handcrafts this year.

Is there a deadline for orders?

ASAP!  We’ve already purchased seed, supplies and equipment for the year, and we’d greatly appreciate your payment before the next credit card bill is due :)
